□ Name: Kat
□ Journal: spraypaints
□ Series: DmC: Devil May Cry
□ Canon point: After Mission 12: Under Siege
□ History:
□ Personality:
When we're first introduced to Kat, she yelling at Dante to wake up and get to safety. She's warning him of danger but what kind? We don't know and thus Dante gets out of bed without bothering to get dressed and opens the door of his trailer. Kat's reaction? Nothing. She only stares for a moment before she immediately tries again to warn him about the Demons have found where he's hiding.
Soon after, Kat flees when she starts to sense the demons coming. As a normal human, she's no match for them. Even with being labeled a psychic. She's not the fireball wielding witch. She has a knack of being practical and by that, I mean she knows when it's better to flee and survive rather than attack something head-on. She actively tries not to draw attention to herself, from Demons and by doing anything suspicious in the real world. She keeps to herself and doesn't easily share much of her past unless she feels she needs to.
Her practicality is also very apparent in how she devises her spells, choosing to "can them for later use" rather spend hours upon hours of devising one on the spot. Kat also acts as Dante's guide, pointing escape routes and demonic camera locations. She initially does this because it is what Vergil ordered of her but eventually she does it because she begins to care for Dante. When she's is traded for Lilith, rather than immediately ask for medical attention for her gunshot wound and other injuries, Kat chooses to help Dante and Vergil infiltrate Mundus's tower by drawing a map and detailing a plan that would have the most success.
Kat's sense of duty is just as strong as her morals. She wants to help Mankind. She wants to free them from Demonic rule and that's why she's part of the Order. That's why she attempts to recruit Dante when Vergil sends her. She wants to do the best she can for the benefit of Humankind, at all possible. She even resigned herself to possibly dying for the sake of Vergil and Dante's escape when the headquarters of the Order was infiltrated and the SWAT teams were more likely to shoot to kill than subdue. In fact, the first thing she thought when Dante first found her in the HQ was they needed to find Vergil, the Leader and ensure his safety instead of her own escape.
Cautious but still upbeat, Kat has a good amount of street smarts and has some intelligence with computers although the only time in the game she's seen using those technological skills is to initiate the self-destruct of Order HQ under Vergil's directions. Her street smarts does allow her to make good judgment calls about whether or not she should interfere or if she should keep to the shadows. She knows her way around Limbo City and can easily spot places that are actually rifts that would allow Dante to slip in and out of Limbo. Although she has some sarcasm, Kat doesn't employ it constantly. Rather, she tends to be more polite and sweet than anything, nothing like what you would expect from a delinquent and a "terrorist".
Kat wants to believe in the best of people. She's naive and innocent in that aspect. She tries to always see the good and can be blinded toward the subtle cues on whether or not something is actually "right" or "wrong". She's just as surprised as everyone else that Vergil's true mission was to take over Humankind with himself and Dante as joint-rulers. Also, Kat's humility and compassion is so great that it's the main reason Dante remembers who he is after he turns into a merciless demon against Vergil in the final fight. At Kat's urging, he releases his brother instead of kills him outright.
Finally, I want to touch on Kat's resilience. When captured, she endured who knows what amount of torture and still managed to discover the layout of Mundus's lair. Her abuse under her Foster Father didn't break her either. Instead, she's reached a point where that despite not wanting to talk about it, she doesn't let it bother her. She's, above all, a survivor. She doesn't let her past hinder her down. Instead she wants to live life and live it for the better. By throwing herself into the mission of the Order, she can help others do the same and that's what Kat really wants.
□ Age: Unknown, possibly late teens or early twenties.
□ Gender: Female
□ Appearance:
With brown hair that is cropped short in the back but has two long bangs framing her face, Kat almost always with her hoodie over her head. The arms and hood are of a gray or lavender color while the body is a bright orange. She wears presumably a tank top underneath her hoodie and denim short-shorts. Around her neck are two, possibly three, necklaces. She completes the outfit with knee-high boots and a belt where a can of spray paint dangles freely. Over one shoulder, she carries a tube that houses the multiple rolled up stencils she uses for her spells.
Yet, it isn't her outfit that stands out for Kat the most but the star-like tattoo set on her forehead, over where the mystical "third eye" is supposed to be and the vine-like henna tattoos covering her hands and fingers. According to some, the tattoos on her hands are supposed to extend to her arms
It should be noted that Kat actually has freckles and a beauty mark underneath her left eye's outside corner.
□ Abilities/Powers:
Kat is coined as a spirit medium who is able to interact with those in Limbo. She can see demons and dwellers of the warped Reality. She is able to cast spells, through the use of her graffiti to enable Dante to literally pull objects as well as use her spells to cross over into Limbo or back into the Real World.
As a child and possibly in her teen years, Kat was able to use astral projection while under extreme duress or severe psychosomatic trauma. She has no control over her astral projection but it is possible that while her spirit is out of her body, she can explore Limbo to great effect. However, she can still be killed if caught in a battle in Limbo.
I do think that at a high enough level and if she suffers some sort of trauma or extreme stress in Ariel that Kat would be able "unintentionally" use astral projection again. Or at least be able to astral project with the help of another psychic (or someone with telepathic abilities) to act as her "anchor" and help guide and mentor her. Also, at level 3 or higher, if the person she is speaking has an alternate or "true" form, she should be able to see it but only as a superimposed image over that person's current form.
She has no known combat ability and if she does, it is never shown in the actual game. However, she does have a good memory. I would go as far to say that she has possibly an Eidetic memory as seen when she is able to recount every single piece of information (as well as which directions Dante should go) of the Silver Sacks tower during her captivity. However, it might not be true Eidetic memory because when attempting to recount her time in the Virility factory, she was unable to immediately remember the proper way to the rift (or gate area). In Kat's defense, the last time she had been in the factory was during her childhood while she was escaping "the nightmares".
Lastly, Kat is pretty much as human as you can get in Devil May Cry game. The only difference is that she puts a new spin on the whole idea of a Modern Witch who happens to be a bit psychic.
□ Personal Items:
1. Spray-can of instant reality bending spell-casting. Considering that Ariel is completely disconnected from Limbo, it's really just a can of red spray paint.
2. Her array stencils rolled into a large carrying tube with a thick leather strap.
3. Reality-warping hexagon looking device that is more of an egg-timer than anything else.
